Choosing The Right Specification For Your Print Job
Most printing regret comes from one of three decisions: the wrong paper, the wrong binding for the page count, or ordering a quantity that ignores how the per-unit price behaves. A short conversation before we quote usually saves more than any discount would.
Digital Or Offset?
Digital printing has no plate cost, so it wins on short runs — one copy to roughly two hundred and fifty. Offset carries a setup cost that is amortised across the run, so above about three hundred copies the per-unit price drops steeply and keeps dropping. If your quantity sits near the crossover, we quote both and show you the arithmetic.
Paper That Matches The Use
70 GSM maplitho is the economical standard for text and for double-sided printouts. 80 GSM feels more substantial and stops show-through on heavy double-sided work. Cream 70–80 GSM reduces glare for long reading. Art paper from 100 to 170 GSM is for photographs and dense colour graphics.
Binding That Matches The Page Count
Saddle stitch under 64 pages. Spiral or wiro for anything used flat on a desk — workbooks, manuals, planners. Perfect binding from 60 to 600 pages. Section-sewn or hardcover casing where longevity, archiving or retail presentation matters.
What A Print-Ready File Looks Like
- PDF with all fonts embedded, single-page (not spreads) and in final page order
- 300 DPI images, CMYK for colour pages, true black for text
- 3 mm bleed on any element that touches the trim edge
- Inside (gutter) margin widened for the binding you have chosen
Word, InDesign and Google Docs files are welcome too — we convert and preflight them and tell you what changed before anything goes on press. Our file preparation guide covers the details.
Turnaround You Can Commit To
Single copies and thesis binding: same day to 24 hours for Delhi. Short digital runs up to 100 copies: two to four working days. Offset runs above 300 copies: seven to twelve working days including proofing. Dispatch adds two to five working days outside Delhi.

Understanding Book Printing In India: Methods, Costs And Choices
The technical background that helps you order the right print run instead of the most expensive one.
Book printing decisions come down to four variables: quantity, page count, colour and binding. Get those four right and everything else, from paper choice to delivery schedule, follows logically. Digital printing has almost no setup cost, which makes it the correct method for one to about three hundred copies; the per-copy price stays flat whether you print one book or fifty. Offset printing carries plate and make-ready costs, but once those are absorbed the per-copy price falls dramatically, which makes it the right method above roughly three hundred to five hundred copies.
Page count drives paper cost, binding method and spine width. A book under sixty-four pages generally binds better with saddle stitching than with a glued spine, because a thin perfect-bound spine cracks. Above that, perfect binding becomes the practical standard for paperbacks. Above four hundred pages, paper bulk starts to matter and a lower GSM interior stock keeps the book comfortable to hold and cheaper to courier.
Colour is where budgets are usually won or lost. A full-colour interior can cost several times a black and white interior. Many educational and business titles only need colour on a handful of pages, and grouping those pages into a colour section keeps the rest of the book at black and white rates. We routinely restructure files this way for customers and reduce their total print cost significantly without touching the content.
Print-on-demand deserves special mention for independent authors. Instead of committing capital to a thousand copies that sit in a spare room, you print small batches as orders arrive. The per-copy cost is higher than a bulk run, but there is no stock risk, no storage cost, and no dead inventory if the first edition needs corrections. For most first-time authors, printing twenty-five to fifty copies, gathering real reader feedback, then scaling up is the financially sound path.
Digital Printing
Best for 1 to 300 copies. No plate cost, fast turnaround, ideal for author copies, proofs, thesis printing and print-on-demand titles.
Offset Printing
Best above 300 copies. Lower per-copy cost, superior colour consistency and the standard choice for educational and trade print runs.
Perfect Binding
Glued square spine used for most paperbacks and thicker workbooks; allows spine printing and looks professional on a shelf.
Case Binding
Hardcover construction for thesis copies, presentation editions, library books and premium gift titles built to last for decades.
Saddle Stitching
Wire-stitched booklets up to about sixty-four pages, economical for question papers, brochures and thin study material.
Spiral & Wiro Binding
Lies completely flat, perfect for practical files, training manuals, workbooks and reference material used at a desk.
Preparing A Print-Ready File
Most printing delays are file problems, not press problems. These checks prevent almost all of them.
Export your interior as a single PDF rather than sending a Word file where possible. A PDF locks fonts, spacing and image placement so that the pages we print match the pages you approved. If you must send DOC or DOCX, embed the fonts and expect minor reflow, which we will confirm with you before printing.
Set your page size to the final trim size of the book, not to A4, unless A4 is genuinely the trim size. Add three millimetres of bleed on any element that runs to the edge of the page, and keep important text at least twelve millimetres inside the trim on the spine side so that binding does not swallow it.
Use images at a minimum of three hundred DPI at the size they will actually appear. A photograph that looks sharp on screen at seventy-two DPI will look soft in print. Line diagrams and scanned handwritten notes benefit from six hundred DPI and high contrast.
Plan your front matter so that chapters begin on right-hand pages if that matters to you, and insert deliberate blank pages where needed. In double side printing, page order is decided by the file, not by the press, so a missing blank page shifts every chapter opening in the book.
